image31511Booktrust is an independent national charity dedicated to encouraging people of all ages and cultures to engage with books and the written word. Bookstart is the part of the charity devoted to children.They run lots of initiatives including the bookstart bags given out to young children at health centres. They also comission a lot of research into the impact of books and reading on child development. They also have a gallery of contemporary illustration on their site

They are running  a conference in April called ‘Poetry and Childhood’ 20 and 21 April at the British Library, with the children’s laureate Michael Rosen.
